One of our partner schools is in Paulista, on the coast of Pernambuco. Click here to find out more: Partner Schools
The capital of Pernambuco state is Recife, by the Atlantic Ocean;
The second largest city is Olinda, in the metropolitan area of Recife.
Recife and Olinda were occupied by the Dutch from 1630 to 1654. We can still see traces of the occupation in the architecture and costumes of both cities. The Dutch were attracted by the fertility of the soil, which is great for growing sugar cane. Even today, a good part of the coastal zone of Pernambuco is taken up with cane plantations and sugar mills.
